shabby chic furniture

I have been sanding a little table given to me by my aunt many years ago. This is it's third reincarnation. I have primed it and intend to make it look a bit shabby chic. I will then decoupage lots of Victorian butterfly's on it. I got these from Past Times in Chester, UK, many years ago. I saved them for a special project. That time has finally arrived.

It took hours and my arms were sooo sore afterwards. I have managed to stand off part of my fingerprints! I am a little perplexed as to what colour and type of paint to use for the top coats. I want a smooth finish also. I am currently hunting internet sites for ideas on this. I found a lovely site about...well you will have to read it yourself! http://parisparfait.typepad.com/paris_parfait/2007/01/index.html

Well I must return to the internet slog and then to my painting techniques!
